Week 1: Making the MicroAquarium

Last Wednesday in Botany we made our MicroAquarium's. I used the the water that had been taken from a water pool below a spring at Lynnhurst Cemetery. The Cemetery was located off of Adair Drive. Knox Co. Knoxville TN. Partial shade exposure Spring Feed Pond n36 01.357 W83 55.731 958 ft. The water was collected on 10/9/11. I also put plant types "A" and "B" in the MicroAquarium. Plant "A" is Amblestegium sp. Moss. Collection from: Natural spring. at Carters Mill Park, Carter Mill Road, Knox Co. TN. Partial shade exposure. N36 01.168 W83 42.832. 10/9/2011. Plant "B" is Utricularia gibba L. Flowering plant. A carnivous plant. Original material from south shore of Spain Lake (N 35o55 12.35" W088o20' 47.00), Camp Bella Air Rd. East of Sparta Tn. in White Co. and grown in water tanks outside of greenhouse at Hesler Biology Building. The University of Tennessee. Knox Co. Knoxville TN. I didn't notice anything particular about the plants. But I have already seen two different types of organisms in the MicroAquarium. I saw a larger organisms that was moving quite slowly. It was an oval shape and had a brownish color to it. It liked to go in and out of the mud. The other type of organism I saw was a black spec that moved very quickly across the MicroAquarium. It was very small and was moving too quickly for me to follow it. I'm looking foreword to to finding out what these organisms were next week.
